Insurance

We are currently out of network providers for insurance companies. This has many benefits to you as a client vs being an in network provider for mental health counseling. We ask that you pay for your appointment up front. If you would like to get reimbursed from your insurance company, we can provide you with a Superbill. This Superbill includes everything the insurance company would need to process your claim, including diagnosis and procedure codes. (We recommend the quick and easy phone app Better which is described below at the bottom of this page, to assist you in making this process simple and easy.) Most clients who submit this to their insurance company for reimbursement ask us to give them a Superbill about once a month. Note: Occasionally insurance companies will require you to submit a claim form with the Superbill. You would need to check with your insurance company to verify what is required. If a claim form is required, we can assist you in filling the needed paperwork out, once you give us that form. Some companies only require the Superbill to be mailed to them. After you have met your deductible, you would receive a check from your insurance company for the percent that they pay. As an out of network provider, insurance companies will typically reimburse a percentage of the session cost (for example anywhere from 60% to 90% of the amount billed).

The Benefits of Seeing an Out of Network Therapist:
  • We are able to keep our rates down and often offer a much lower rate to our clients. As an in network provider we would need to raise our rates substantially just to cover paying a person to do insurance billing alone.
  • You are more likely to be able to go to a therapist that you choose based on specialty and whether they integrate psychology with theology. We believe that our clients should be able to access the full range of mental health professionals according to client needs. Often managed care companies restrict the professionals that clients are allowed to work with – preferring to refer clients to therapists who have a record of providing short term therapy rather than to other therapists who may provide better results or offer a different packaging of services.
  • You have greater control over your privacy and what is shared with your insurance company. By contracting with managed care companies, it is likely that we would be required to share our client’s deeply personal information with gatekeepers and utilization review professionals; it would mean potentially allowing literally hundreds of others to have access to our client’s personal information.
  • Often, the time you pay a copay, you are basically paying the same amount you would if seeing an in network provider once you get reimbursed from seeing an out of network provider, combined with our lower rates.
  • Insurance does not cover marriage counseling.
  • As licensed professionals, we are required to avoid potential conflicts of interest. Our primary concern is for our client’s well-being. Therapists working under the constraints of managed care companies are sometimes put in the position of having to choose between what is in their own best interest and what is in their client’s best interest. We do not want to be put in that position.
  • Managed care companies typically cover only those services deemed medically necessary. This means that they require a serious enough diagnosis to justify treatment, often when there is no need for that diagnosis to be given to that degree and level. That diagnosis becomes part of your record.

Some Questions to Ask Your Insurance Company Prior to Your Appointment:
  • Let them know you are planning on seeing an out of network Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida, depending on the therapist you see.
  • Ask them if you have an out of network benefit. Most clients do nowadays.
  • Ask them if you have a deductible and how much of your deductible has been met for the year? What is left to meet your deductible?
  • What set amount per session or percent of the billed amount do they pay?

Payments Accepted

We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and some Flex Cards connected to health savings account plans.
